Thank You – And Let’s Do This!

Sometimes life will take you by surprise when you least expect it. And isn’t that brilliant?

Today was one of those days for me. Today was the launch of my Let’s Talk About Depression speaking tour, starting in Cootamundra NSW, and I am thrilled to say that it was a rousing success! A small group of really lovely people joined me in spite of terrible weather (ah, winter!) and we had a really open discussion about depression. These talks are structured around me explaining my journey and then opening up to the attendees to talk about how we can all tackle the taboos around mental illness, which is potentially the #1 thing that we need to change as a society when it comes to the dialogue around this topic. As I said to my audience today – we don’t discriminate against someone with a physical ailment because we understand that, unfortunately, we all get sick from time to time… so why should a mental illness be any different to a physical illness? It’s all biology, people.

So, on that note, I just want to pause for a moment and say thank you to all of you who have stuck around and supported me through my journey from fiction author to non-fiction author with the release of Depression? F*** Depression! late last year. It means a lot to have all of your support and I look forward to sharing more with you about the Let’s Talk About Depression tour as well as giving you a sneak preview of the new book I’m working on… which I will tell you exclusively has a working title of Mental Health is a Bitch! (But it’s not the end of the world) (your thoughts???!!!)

I also want to take a moment to acknowledge that it was five years ago today that I was in America at the start of an amazing holiday with friends… which means that at the end of this month it will be five years since my first nervous breakdown and… well, we all know how that turned out!!!

The fact that it’s been nearly five years since my world changed irrevocably completely blows my mind. To be sitting here having just launched a national speaking tour in support of my book (an unexpected milestone on its own) and reflecting on the amazing feedback I gained from those who attended today’s session makes me feel amazing and is beyond anything that I could have ever dreamed of. So, a very big thank you to all of you for your ongoing support and for sticking with me while I stumbled my way through building a new life for myself.

I feel a strong and true sense of purpose now and as I said on Twitter after today’s session: ‪#‎PurposeConfirmed‬. There’s lots more to come and I hope you’ll join me in making a difference for as many people as possible. I hope to see you on the Let’s Talk About Depression tour – national Australian dates (and possibly NZ dates!) coming in a few weeks!!! As for overseas – who knows what 2017 will hold?!

BTW: Let’s Talk About Depression is a completely self-funded not-for-profit tour, so if you believe in what I’m doing please buy one of my books from my website (100% of profits go to my tour) OR you can contribute at GoFundMe https://www.gofundme.com/2ge3wdck

Thanks and let’s keep on talking about depression so that we can make a real difference!!!!
